Methyl 11-Bromoundecanoate is a dodecyl n-oxide with a zwitterionic character. It has been shown to be an inhibitor of corrosion in some organic solvents, such as acetone and methylene chloride. The inhibitory concentration values are low, but the inhibitory activities are high. Methyl 11-Bromoundecanoate is soluble in water and has an amine functional group. This compound is also an amide and has a fatty acid chain of 12 carbon atoms. It can be used as a corrosion inhibitor for metals that are sensitive to water or organic solvents, such as aluminum, copper, and zinc.
