Triallyl citrate is a reactive cross-linking agent that reacts with allyl carbonate to form an allyl ester. It is typically used as a plasticizer or stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride, although it can also be used in the production of polymers, fatty acids, and polyvinyl compounds. Triallyl citrate has been studied for use as a radiation cross-linker to strengthen the crystalline structure of calcium carbonate. The reaction products formed between triallyl citrate and calcium carbonate include malic acid and polymerized fatty acids. Triallyl citrate has also been shown to react with plasma proteins and is used in some blood products for its immunological effects on human erythrocytes.
