Product Information

Name:
2-(Naphthalen-1-yl)propan-2-ol
Synonyms:
  • 1-Naphthalenemethanol, Alpha,Alpha-Dimethyl-
  • 2-(1-Naphthyl)propan-2-ol
  • 2-Naphthalen-1-ylpropan-2-ol
Description:

The compound is a detectable, colorless liquid. It has a boiling point of 43 degrees Celsius and a density of 1.0 grams per milliliter. The compound is soluble in alcohols and ethers. The compound is catalytic in the functional theory, which means that it is able to act as an electron carrier for other reactions. It has two chiral centers and four stereoisomers, giving it a total of eight possible enantiomers that can be made from the molecule. The kinetic study was carried out by heating the compound to 200 degrees Celsius with stirring for one hour. This resulted in an increase in the rate of reaction, indicating that it has an organic transfer reaction (can be transferred from one molecule to another). The naphthofuran derivative is an organometallic compound with a methyl ester group at its top left corner.
