(E)-3-Iodoacrylic acid is a synthetic compound that has been shown to inhibit the activity of histone deacetylase (HDAC) enzymes. It also inhibits the expression of dopamine receptors in the brain, which are associated with neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease. This compound has been recrystallized and characterized by spectroscopic methods. It is an acidic compound that readily forms esters and amides with primary amines. The uptake of this compound into cells has been studied, and it has a high solubility in water.
