Description:
3-Phenoxy-2-butanone is a diphenylmethyl acetolysis compound. It is the carbonium ion of the 3-phenoxy-2-butanol molecule, and has an oxonium ion as its conjugate base. This compound is a cyclic ether with a phenoxy group that can undergo transition metal catalysis. The compound also exists as an acetal or ketal, which are both formed by the reaction of alcohols with acetic anhydride or acetone respectively.
