Mordant Black 38 is a metal ion that has a low-molecular weight, high boiling point, and acidic properties. It can be used as an intermediate in the production of polyvinyl chloride and other polymers. Mordant Black 38 is also used as an acrylonitrile stabilizer in the manufacture of acrylic fibers. This compound is also used to produce microcapsules with thermally sensitive coating materials. Mordant Black 38 contains a heterocyclic amine group, which may be carcinogenic when heated at high temperatures.
