Product Information
- 2,4-Dimethylphenyl methyl sulfone
- Benzene, 2,4-dimethyl-1-(methylsulfonyl)-
2,4-Dimethyl-1-(methylsulfonyl)benzene is an enantiopure compound that is used as a reagent in organic synthesis. It is a selective and catalytic agent for the intramolecular cyclopropanation of sulfones with a 1,3-dienyl or 1,3-diynyl moiety. 2,4-Dimethyl-1-(methylsulfonyl)benzene has been shown to undergo asymmetric cyclopropanation reactions with high levels of selectivity. These reactions proceed through the formation of a covalent acyclic intermediate in which the methylsulfonamide group is trapped by a double bond. In this way, 2,4-dimethyl-1-(methylsulfonyl)benzene can be used to synthesize fine chemicals such as jasmonates.
