1-Methylhistamine dihydrochloride is a histamine receptor antagonist that blocks the histamine H1 receptor. It is used in the treatment of allergic disorders, including rhinitis and urticaria. 1-Methylhistamine dihydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the uptake of histidine by human cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit basophilic leukemia cells and increase the levels of histamine. The drug also blocks the binding of guanethidine and bafilomycin a1 to their respective receptors in vitro. 1-Methylhistamine dihydrochloride is used as a diagnostic tool for diagnosing leukemia, as it can bind to antigen targets on leukemic cells.
