Product Information
Methyl acetate is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor and a boiling point of 108.3 degrees Celsius. It is the ester of acetic acid and methanol, and is used as an important solvent in the manufacturing of polymers, paints, lacquers, adhesives, and printing inks. Methyl acetate has been shown to form copper complexes that are sensitive to ligands such as Cocl2 or Cocl3. These complexes have been studied by both electrochemical measurements and single-crystal x-ray diffraction studies. The coordination chemistry of these complexes has also been investigated using sodium salts as nucleophiles. Methyl acetate has an acidic methyl ester group that can be protonated by strong bases to form a nucleophile that can attack an anion or coordinate with a metal ion to form a salt.
