Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-7-amine is a nucleobase that has antiviral properties. It is an antiherpes drug that inhibits the synthesis of DNA by inhibiting the enzyme reverse transcriptase in virus type 1 and 2. Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-7-amine also inhibits the production of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in vivo. This compound has been shown to inhibit the formation of dna duplexes and herpes simplex virus replication in vitro. Imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-7-amine has been shown to be stable under acid conditions and has good chemical stability when exposed to light.
