7-Oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-2-one is a reaction product of ketones and chlorine. It is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of various medicines, such as β-unsaturated ketones. 7-Oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-2-one is prepared by the chlorination of β-unsaturated ketones with a cationic surfactant, hydroxyl group and nonpolar solvent in the presence of an activation energy to form reactive intermediates that are then oxidized with chlorine gas to produce 7-oxabicyclo[4.1.0]heptan-2-one.
