Product Information
- 1,3-Benzodioxole-5-acetyl chloride
Benzo[1,3]dioxol-5-yl-acetyl chloride (BOCCl) is an activated oxychloride that has been used in the synthesis of natural alkaloids. BOCCl is synthesized by diazotization of copper with acetonitrile and then adding benzoic acid to the resulting copper salt. This product can also be used as a starting material in the synthesis of imeluteine and rufescine. BOCCl has been shown to react with phosphorus oxychloride to produce benzoxazole derivatives. It has been used in the preparation of p-cymene, a natural compound found in pine oil. The activation of BOCCl allows it to be dehydrogenated with hydrogen gas at high temperatures to produce a range of compounds, such as α-methylstyrene, phenylacetic acid, and acrylonitrile.
