4-Pentylbenzaldehyde is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C9H10O2. It is an organic compound that possesses a carbonyl group and an aromatic ring. 4-Pentylbenzaldehyde has been shown to have potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity, inhibiting the production of melanin in cells. The inhibition constant for this compound was found to be 1.1 μM, which makes it one of the most potent tyrosinase inhibitors known to date. The inhibitory effect of 4-pentylbenzaldehyde on tyrosinase activity can be described by kinetic analysis, as it inhibits the enzyme at all concentrations tested (0.01-100 μM). This inhibition is thought to be due to its ability to bind directly to the active site of tyrosinase and block access by substrate.
