3,4-dimethoxybenzophenone is a plant-derived compound that has been shown to have anticancer activity against skin cancer cells. It inhibits the growth of these cells by forming hydrogen bonds with the DNA molecule and inhibiting DNA synthesis. 3,4-dimethoxybenzophenones also inhibit the growth of cancer cells by targeting intracellular targets such as proteins involved in signal transduction pathways. 3,4-Dimethoxybenzophenones have been shown to suppress tumor suppressor genes such as p53 and retinoblastoma protein (pRb). They also modulate dietary factors and are anti-inflammatory compounds.
