2-Chloromethyl-1-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole is a drug used for the treatment of inflammatory diseases. It is also effective against microbial infections and has been patented for use as a pharmaceutical. 2-(Chloromethyl)-1-methyl-5-nitro-1H-imidazole is available in two different crystalline polymorphs (A and B), which can be distinguished by their melting points and solubility in solvents. The drug is effective against trypanosomiasis and hemolymphatic parasites, but has not been shown to be effective against fexinidazole or untreated death.
