Product Information
2-Phenylbutan-2-amine is a chemical compound with two phenyl groups and one amino group. It has been found to react with nitrous acid to form 2,3-diphenylbutanenitrile, which is a deamination product of the amine. This reaction can be performed in the presence of sodium borohydride and acetic acid. The deamination product can be converted back into 2-phenylbutan-2-amine by reductive amination with ammonium chloride or sodium cyanoborohydride. The optical rotation of 2-phenylbutan-2-amine is D = +26° (c=0.5 in dichloromethane).
