Description:
2,4-Dimethoxycinnamic acid is a chiral compound found in humans. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of statins, which are drugs that inhibit cholesterol biosynthesis. 2,4-Dimethoxycinnamic acid has been shown to reduce biliary cholesterol by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase. This inhibition leads to increased production of bile acids and improved absorption of dietary fat.
