3,3’,5-Triiodo-L-thyronine 4’-o-sulfate (T4S) is a thyroid hormone that is synthesized from thyroxine. This compound inhibits the uptake of iodine by the thyroid gland, which leads to an increase in plasma levels of T4 and T3. T4S has been shown to be effective in treating hypothyroidism in humans when given orally or intravenously. The mechanism of action for this drug is not fully understood but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the transport of iodide into the thyroid gland.
