cis-3-Hexen-1-yl Hexanoate is a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) reagent that is used to amplify a specific DNA sequence. It is an anhydrous sodium salt of cis-3-hexenyl hexanoate and is prepared by reacting sodium carbonate with caproic acid in the presence of heat. cis-3-Hexen-1-yl Hexanoate has been shown to bind odorant molecules and also has been used as a control agent in polymerase chain reactions. In addition, it has been shown to be functional when used as a solid catalyst. cis-3-Hexen-1-yl Hexanoate has been shown to have biological function in the synthesis of the chemical composition of natural rubber.
