Product Information
1,4-Bis(7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)piperazine (BCQP) is a novel small molecule that has been shown to scavenge peroxynitrite. It has been shown to have antimicrobial properties against gram-positive bacteria and was effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Enterococcus faecalis. BCQP binds to the bacterial cell membrane and blocks the diffusion of hydrogen ions across the membrane by forming intermolecular hydrogen bonds with the hydroxyl groups on the ether side chains of lipids. This leads to an increase in pH inside the bacterial cell, which inhibits its respiration. BCQP also forms π-π interactions with aromatic amino acids in proteins, which can lead to protein denaturation or aggregation.
