2-(4-Bromobutoxy)tetrahydro-2H-pyran is an analog of the natural fatty acid, pyroglutamic acid. This compound has been shown to inhibit human neuroblastoma cells in vitro and to cause death by apoptosis in these cells. In addition, 2-(4-bromobutoxy)tetrahydro-2H-pyran has been shown to be cytotoxic against the human adenocarcinoma cell line HT29. The synthesis of this compound is diastereoselective, which means that it is not achiral and can exist as two optical isomers with different configurations.
