2-Amino-N-(pyridin-2-yl)ethane-1-sulfonamide is a substrate for the enzyme, cytochrome P450 7A1 (CYP7A1). It is an inhibitor of cholesterol synthesis and is used in the treatment of high cholesterol. 2-Amino-N-(pyridin-2-yl)ethane-1-sulfonamide also has been shown to lower cholesterol levels by reducing production of bile acids. The activity of this drug as a substrate for CYP7A1 may be due to its ability to bind to nuclear receptors that regulate cholesterol metabolism and reduce plasma cholesterol levels.
