1-(3-Methyl-4H-1,4-benzothiazin-2-yl)ethan-1-one is a compound that can be prepared by reacting sodium hydroxide with sulfur and hydroxylamine. It has antibacterial activity against gram positive bacteria and antifungal activity against Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. 1-(3-Methyl-4H-1,4-benzothiazin-2-yl)ethanone has been shown to inhibit the growth of bacteria by binding to the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase, which is involved in DNA synthesis, and by inhibiting the production of proteins vital for cell division. The toxicity profiles of this compound are unknown.
