Methyl 1,2-thiazole-4-carboxylate is a benzyl derivative that has been shown to have the ability to repair DNA. This compound is a pharmacological agent that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-tumour properties. Methyl 1,2-thiazole-4-carboxylate is also an inhibitor of alkyltransferase and inactivates purines and guanines. It is metabolized by the enzyme methyltransferase which modifies it to methyl 2,3-thiazole carboxylate. The stereochemistry of this molecule can be determined by focusing on the methyl group on carbon number 2 or 3.
