2,5-Dimethyl-1H-pyrrole-3,4-dicarbaldehyde (DMPD) is a chromatographic reagent that is used to analyze fatty acid profiles in food products. It can be used as a derivatization agent for the analysis of amines and fatty acids by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). DMPD has been shown to have good chemical stability and is compatible with most solvents. The primary amino group on DMPD is reactive with nucleophiles such as biogenic amines and can be used for the post-column derivatization of these compounds.
DMPD has been shown to have good flow properties and can be used for electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS).
