Description:

Ethyl cis-9-Hexadecenoate is a fatty acid that belongs to the group of long chain fatty acids. It is synthesized in the cytosol and liver, but not in the mitochondria. It has been shown to induce mitochondrial membrane potential collapse, which results in ATP depletion and necrotic cell death. Ethyl cis-9-Hexadecenoate also inhibits signal pathways by decreasing intracellular Ca2+ levels through inhibition of voltage-gated Ca2+ channels. Ethyl cis-9-hexadecenoate has been shown to inhibit protease activity and cause pancreatitis in rats.
