Methyl 3-chloro-4-methylbenzoate is a selective inhibitor of the serine/threonine kinase protein kinase C (PKC) beta isoform. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of various cancer cell lines and to sensitize drug resistant cells to anticancer drugs. Methyl 3-chloro-4-methylbenzoate has been shown to inhibit PKC activity in vitro by binding selectively to the PKC beta isozyme and blocking its activation. This inhibition of PKC beta may lead to increased sensitivity of drug resistant cells, such as those that are resistant to anticancer drugs.
