It is applied pre-emergence or post-emergence to the soil or in containers. 4-Hydroxymethyl pendimethalin has a low risk of crop injury, but has been shown to cause colloids on the surface of plant tissue. This compound also adsorbs onto sand and silt particles in the soil.
