The equilibrium constant for this reaction is 4.8 ˣ 10 at 25 ˚C and pH 7, and it can be catalyzed by thiourea or tetrabutylammonium chloride. 5-Phenyl-2(1H)-pyrimidinone also reacts with trifluoromethanesulfonic acid to form the corresponding chloride, chloroacetic acid, or thionyl chloride.
