1-O-acetylbritannilactone is a sesquiterpene lactone that is structurally related to the well-known anti-cancer agent britannin. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on cancer cells by inhibiting the production of growth factors and cell proliferation. 1-O-acetylbritannilactone binds to the plasma protein albumin and slows its release from the blood into the tissues, which means it takes longer for this drug to reach its site of action. This results in a long plasma concentration-time curve, which may be beneficial for treating cancers with a long preclinical phase or for slowing tumor growth.
