Imazamox-o-desmethyl is a synthetic microbe that is used as an antibiotic and antiparasitic agent. It has been shown to be effective against both bacteria and fungi. Imazamox-o-desmethyl inhibits the synthesis of proteins by inhibiting the function of ribosomes, which are cellular structures that translate genetic information into proteins. The drug also inhibits viral growth by preventing the synthesis of viral RNA or DNA. Imazamox-o-desmethyl has been used in clinical trials for treatment of hepatitis B virus, hepatitis C virus, influenza A virus, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
