Exo-8-methyl-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-amine is a 5-HT3 receptor antagonist that binds to the serotonin receptors in the brain and prevents the activation of these receptors by serotonin. Exo-8-methyl-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octan-3-amine reduces chemokine production, which is a signaling molecule that triggers inflammatory responses in immune cells, and it also has been shown to have an antihistaminic effect on the central nervous system. This drug has not yet been tested on humans, but animal studies show promising results for its treatment of both HIV and chronic hepatitis C virus infections.
