4-(2-Nitrophenoxy)benzamide is a potential antiviral that has been shown to inhibit the replication of adenovirus in vitro. 4-(2-Nitrophenoxy)benzamide is a chemists' tool for studying potential antiviral compounds. It is used in toxicity studies and has been shown to be nontoxic in mice at high doses. 4-(2-Nitrophenoxy)benzamide has been shown to be effective against coxsackievirus, but not against other viruses such as herpes simplex virus type 1 or human cytomegalovirus.
