5-Allyl-3-methoxy-6-methyl-7-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)bicyclo[.1]octane-2,8-dione is a naturally occurring compound that is the most potent natural inhibitor of human leukocyte elastase (HLE) identified to date. 5-Allyl-3-methoxy-6 methyl 7-(3,4,5 trimethoxyphenyl)bicyclo[.1]octane -2,8 dione was isolated from the rhizome of Curcuma zedoaria and has been shown to be bioactive in vitro. The molecule inhibits HLE by binding to the active site of HLE and blocks its proteolytic activity on elastin. This molecule is an analytical standard for HPLC and can be used as a reference material for screening purposes.
