Product Information
2-Methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ol is an alkynyl compound that has been shown to undergo photorearrangement in the presence of irradiation. 2-Methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-3-ol has also been shown to undergo cyclocondensation with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and naphthalene. This photochemical reaction yields a mixture of 3-hydroxycyclohexenone, 3-hydroxycycloheptanone, and 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid. The crystallographic analysis of the crystal structure of 3-hydroxycyclohexenone revealed that it is a planar molecule with a central six membered ring consisting of two methyl groups and four phenolic hydroxyls.
