Product Information
- N-Hexanoyl-Dl-Homoserine Lactone
- N-Caproyl-Dl-Homoserine Lactone
N-Hexanoyl-DL-homoserine lactone is a nitrite reductase inhibitor that has been shown to have clinical relevance in the treatment of sepsis. It has been shown to inhibit the production of hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide, which are important mediators in the inflammatory response. N-Hexanoyl-DL-homoserine lactone binds to an allosteric site on nitrite reductase, preventing the enzyme from reducing nitrite to nitric oxide. This inhibits the production of hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide, which are both important mediators in the inflammatory response. It also inhibits efflux pumps and oxidizers in Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli, making it a potential candidate for therapeutic use against these bacteria.
