H-Ile-Lys-Val-Ala-Val-OH trifluoroacetate salt is a synthetic peptide with neurotrophic properties that is used in the treatment of neurological disorders. It has been shown to promote axonal growth and improve motor skills in animal models. The peptide has been shown to stimulate the expression of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF). H-Ile-Lys-Val-Ala-Val-OH trifluoroacetate salt has also been shown to promote neurite outgrowth from rat primary cortical neurons and human skin cells. This peptide was found to be biocompatible with collagen gels and hydrogels, as it does not disrupt cell viability or proliferation. The synthesis of this compound is achieved through a polymerase chain reaction, which uses DNA polymerase enzyme to synthesize the desired sequence of nucleotides on an oligonucleotide template.
