Diethyl 4-(benzyloxy)benzylphosphonate is a metabolite of the drug diethyl 4-nitrobenzylphosphonate. It is known to have physiological effects on the human body, including bowel disease. The mechanism of action is not fully understood, but it has been shown to inhibit an enzyme called phosphatidylethanolamine N-methyltransferase (PEMT).
