5-Methyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)thiazol-4-ol is a fluorescent molecule that has been synthesized to bind to cyclodextrin. Cyclodextrins are polymeric molecules with a molecular weight of about 2,000 Daltons and have an affinity for potassium ions. The fluorescence of 5-Methyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)thiazol-4-ol is enhanced by the presence of cyclodextrins and is sensitive to the concentration. Cyclodextrins can be used as a tool in order to fractionate 5-Methyl-2-(pyridin-2-yl)thiazol-4-ol by their ionic properties.
