5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3h)-one dihydrochloride dihydrate is a potent inhibitor of protein synthesis. It binds to the ribosomal 60S subunit and inhibits the process of protein synthesis. This drug has been shown in assays to inhibit bacteria such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Escherichia coli. 5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidin-4(3h)-one dihydrochloride dihydrate has also been shown to be effective against a number of other bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics such as penicillin and erythromycin.
