4-(1H-1,2,3-Triazol-1-yl)piperidine (4-HTP) is an antibacterial agent that inhibits bacterial DNA synthesis. It has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and is active against methicillin resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus. 4-HTP has been shown to be effective against vancomycin resistant strains of S. epidermidis, including vancomycin intermediate and vancomycin resistant strains. 4-HTP also has antiplaque properties and can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro.
