3-Cyano-5-methylhexanoic acid is a hexanoic acid that is the major component of the genus Acidovorax and is found in bacterial strains. 3-Cyano-5-methylhexanoic acid has been shown to be a kinetic substrate for lipases, with stereoselective activity and high extraction yield. It has also been shown to have psychotropic effects in animal models, and has been used as a synthetic intermediate in organic chemistry. 3-Cyano-5-methylhexanoic acid has also been immobilized on an ion exchange resin to increase its stability and ease of use.
