It binds to the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) enzyme and inhibits its activity, thereby preventing the replication of viral DNA. 2-Mercaptopyrimidine-5-carbaldehyde has been shown to be effective in suppressing tumor growth in vivo. This drug targets nicotiana leaves, inhibiting the production of polyphenols in plants.
