Description:
Famciclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue of the natural compound penciclovir. It is used in the treatment and suppression of herpes simplex virus (HSV) infections, including genital herpes, cold sores, shingles, and chickenpox. Famciclovir is an antiviral agent that inhibits viral DNA synthesis by selective inhibition of viral thymidine kinase (TK). The drug accumulates in ganglia and other cells infected with HSV. Famciclovir has been shown to reduce the duration and severity of symptoms associated with HSV infections, such as fever blisters and genital ulcers.
