Description:
5-Nitrobenzo[b]furan-2-carbohydrazide is a disulfide with a carboxylic group that has been shown to scavenge free radicals in the radical scavenging assay. It also inhibits COX-2 and causes an increase in glutathione levels. 5-Nitrobenzo[b]furan-2-carbohydrazide has been shown to be an effective antioxidant in vivo, as it significantly reduced carrageenan induced paw edema in rats and provided protection against oxidative injury. This compound also exhibits anti-inflammatory activities by inhibiting the release of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL1β, IL6 and TNFα.
