2-Sulfanyl-1,3-benzoxazole-6-carbonitrile (SBX) is a chemical compound that can be used to form microspheres. SBX has been shown to bind to caffeine and theophylline, which are drugs used in the treatment of certain disorders. SBX can be imprinted with a drug molecule or other biologically active molecule, such as DNA or proteins. This process allows for controlled release of the drug over time. The imprinted molecules are electrochemically detectable using an electrochemical biosensor device. SBX has also been used in polymerized and immobilized methods in order to extract myoglobin from human serum samples.
