It has an absorption edge at about 300 nm and its emission maximum is at about 400 nm. 9,3':6',9''-Tercarbazole can be activated thermally or optically. When activated, it can emit light in the visible region of the spectrum. 9,3':6',9''-Tercarbazole has been used to create electronic devices and can be used as a component in solar cells because it absorbs infrared light.
