Description

1-O-Hexadecyl-rac-glycerol is a versatile building block that can be used to synthesize complex compounds. This chemical is an excellent reagent for many reactions, and has been shown to be useful as a reaction component or in the synthesis of speciality chemicals. 1-O-Hexadecyl-rac-glycerol is also a useful intermediate in the preparation of fine chemicals. It has been found to be stable under normal conditions, and is easy to handle and store.
1-O-Hexadecyl-rac-glycerol belongs to the group of more than 100 different natural glycerols that are produced by animals and plants. This compound can be obtained from natural sources such as soybean oil, palm oil, or coconut oil, or it can be synthesized from glycerin with hexadecanedioic acid chloride in a two step process.
