3-Methylthiopropionyl Chloride is a chlorinated compound that is used in the production of cellulose acetate. The chloride can be detected by 13C-NMR spectroscopy and structural analysis. The diameter of 3-Methylthiopropionyl Chloride particles is between 10 and 100 nm and has a boiling point of about 130°C. It has low volatility, a pungent odor, and is soluble in water. 3-Methylthiopropionyl Chloride belongs to the class of lyotropic compounds that have a high concentration in solution and form micelles with hydroxypropyl cellulose. This product also has functional groups that are sulfoxide or hydroxypropyl which are responsible for its solubility in water.
