Description:
Methyl 5-(methoxymethyl)furan-2-carboxylate is an activated ester that can be synthesized from ethylene and methyl 5-hydroxymethylfurfural. The activation energy for this reaction is high, so it needs to be heated to a temperature of around 240°C in order to activate the ester. This product has potential uses as a monomer in polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate, ion exchange resins, and activated carbon. It can also be used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals or agrochemicals.
